Eco-Grants

With this subsidy program, proposed by the environment and beautification committee, the Town of Beresford wishes to support the adoption of environmentally friendly practices by its citizens. This program supports the acquisition of composter, digesters and water efficient toilets.

Composters and Digesters

Compostable materials, which some call putrescible materials, are organic materials from plants or animals that rot and decompose. They include leaves, branches, grass clippings, as well as leftovers from the kitchen, fruits and vegetables peelings, and even soiled paper napkins.

About 40 % of all our waste can be composted at home. For a household that recovers its recyclables but has not yet begun to compost its organic materials, they represent close to 60 % of the content of the trash. If you were surprised by the weight of your garbage bin when you started to recycle… imagine when you will start to compost your organic waste!

Besides being good for our environment, to compost organic waste is good for our community’s wallet. Indeed, organic waste composted at home does not have to be transported by truck and landfilled, reducing our greenhouse gas emissions while generating cost savings.

To help you compost, the Town of Beresford offers you three programs, the Green cone, the basic composter and the composter credit. See below for details!

 Cone Vert

Green Cone - Digesters

The perfect complement to the composter, the Green cone allows composting of all kitchen waste, including meat, fish and other food, without any smell! Digesting with a green cone is the easiest composting technique. Open the green cone, put the kitchen waste in, close the lid and done!

The Town of Beresford offers you the Green cone at a price of $29 + HST instead of the regular price of $114 + HST.

One green cone is available for citizens of Beresford occupying their principal residence located in the Town of Beresford.

To obtain one, visit the Beresford Town Hall between 8:30 AM/noon and 1 PM/4:30PM on business days with a proof of residency and cash money for the purchase.

More information on green cones can be obtained here: https://www.compostec.ca/

Composter

The composter allows the efficient disposal of organic matter, and when done well, in an odour-free way!

All of this will be transformed in clean and rich compost ready to be used in your garden or on your lawn.

A few benefits of composting are

If you are ready to compost, the Town of Beresford offers your two options to help you get started!

Low Flush Toilets

Toilets represent up to 30% of all water consumed in a household. This water consumption can be reduced by the use of low-flush toilets. This type of toilet consumes 4.8 litres per flush versus 13 litres for older models, a water saving of more than 60%!

To encourage the installation of such toilets, the Town of Beresford is offering a credit of $50 per toilet for a maximum of 2 toilets ($100) per residential property occupied by the owner. Toilets will need to have a volume per flush of 4.8 litres or less to qualify.

To be eligible, toilets must replace a standard toilet, new construction is not eligible for this program.

To claim the credit, visit the Beresford Town hall between 8:30 AM/noon and 1 PM/4:30 PM on work days with your proof of residency and the invoice for a toilet bought in a Chaleur region business during the last 2 months. The receipt must indicate the model of the toilet so we can verify its water volume.
